What changes have you made due to the Coronavirus pandemic?

The safety of my clients is of the upmost importance. I want clients to be able to enjoy relaxing treatments, helping them ease their aches and pains and get the benefit of touch - something we all missed during the last few difficult years. I have introduced a number of changes which you can read about on the Covid-19 information page.

What are contraindications?

There are certain medical conditions and situations that mean that a massage is not permitted or advisable. Other conditions may require medical consent before a massage can take place. If you have a medical condition or are taking any prescribed medication please read more about contraindications. If you are unsure whether you are able to have a massage because of your current situation please contact me for advice.

There are very few situations when reflexology cannot be given, however if you have an infectious disease, shingles or an undiagnosed heart condition then reflexology is not suitable.

What happens during the consultation?

In order for me to give you the best and most effective treatment, or course of treatments, we will have a thorough consultation at your first appointment. We will discuss your lifestyle and any areas of concern, as well as checking for contraindications. I'll then take you through the planned treatment, allowing us to tailor it to meet your individual needs. A full consultation will typically take around 10 minutes.

At subsequent treatments we'll have a shorter consultation to check on any changes in your health and wellbeing since the previous appointment.

How often should I have a massage?

This is completely up to you! Most people benefit from a regular massage either monthly or six massages per year.  If you are suffering very badly from stress and have a lot of tension in your body you may benefit from a weekly or fortnightly massage.

How often should I have reflexology?

If you have a particular health concern or are very stressed then I recommend a regular treatment, so for example a weekly treatment for 4-8 weeks or a fortnightly treatment for 2 - 3 months. However this is always discussed with you in relation to your well-being goals and what is relevant to your life style and circumstances. A one off treatment is still very relaxing and beneficial and likewise a regular monthly treatment is also ideal.

What clothes do I wear during my massage?

I always use towels to preserve modesty during your massage, only uncovering each part of the body as I work on it. The towels help to keep you warm, although my massage table is also heated. For a full body massage you will remove all your clothes apart from your underwear - you may remove your bra, or leave it on depending on what makes you feel more comfortable. For an upper body massage you may wear clothes on your lower body, however I would recommend you remove your clothes down to your underwear.

Why do you only treat women?

As a busy working mum of two young children I know only too well the challenges of everyday life and the stresses this can place on the body. In particular I understand the 'mental load' that women face and how overwhelming and exhausting it can be. I want to try to ease the burden with a relaxing massage. I provide a thorough consultation to understand how you are feeling and where you hold tension in your body. My treatment room is in my home, and therefore it is my choice to only treat women. I created my treatment room with all of this in mind, so I hope you will find it calm and relaxing.

I am pregnant, can I have a massage?

In order to give you a safe massage a therapist must have a specific qualification in pregnancy massage. I am not currently qualified and therefore cannot treat you if you are pregnant or think you might be.

I am pregnant, can I have reflexology?

Yes I am fully qualified to give reflexology during any stage of pregnancy. It is a really great way to relax!

How do you store my information?

I have a full General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) policy which provides full detail on how your data is stored and managed.  In short:

  • Your appointment details, date of birth, treatment dates, contact and marketing preferences are kept in a password protected booking system.

  • Your client paperwork is stored in a locked file, to which only I have the key.

  • You will receive a booking confirmation and appointment reminder before your treatment.

  • You will receive a post-treatment message as a follow up.

  • You will only receive marketing messages if you have opted in to receive them. Marketing messages will only be sent from time to time to keep you up-to-date with special offers and new treatments available. You can unsubscribe at any time.

  • It may be necessary for me to send important updates to all clients - these are service messages and not marketing communications. These will be sent, if necessary, to all clients regardless of whether they have signed up for marketing messages.

If you have any questions about your data please contact me.

What is aftercare advice?

After a massage or reflexology it is beneficial for you to follow some basic principles that help to make your treatment as effective as possible, such as:

  • drink lots of water;

  • avoid caffeine, alcohol and tobacco; and

  • rest and relax after your treatment.

Where necessary I will also show you suitable stretches to help ease your aches and pains in between treatments.

You may find that your muscles are a little tired and achey after your massage. This is normal, but if you have any concerns please contact me.

When and how do I pay for my treatment?

Please pay before your treatment via bank transfer.  You can also pay by cash or by card at the end of your appointment. If paying with cash please make sure you have the correct money.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

I understand that life can sometimes throw you a curve ball and plans have to change.  However I do require 48 hours notice if you wish to move or cancel your appointment. You can read the full cancellation policy here. I have created it so that it is as flexible as possible whilst being mindful of the impact cancellations have on my small business.
